Get Authentication Error in upgrade SQL 2005 named instance to SP1 TCP

I got the following error using either NT or SQL Login ('sa') that are sysadmin in my SQL 2005 instance:

Your Account information could not be verified for one or more instances. Ensure that you can connect to all the selected instances using the account information provided. To process further deselect the instances to which connectivity cannot be established.

However, I would login to SQL 2005 named instance, either NT or SQL login 'sa' without any problems to do anything I want because both are sysadmin.

<PS> Note that my default SQL instance in my local server is SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 named instance.

Richard

Hi Richard, I just tried this on my machine and didn't hit any issues. Can you send a little more info about the state of your machine? Are you running SQL 2000 SP4? What SKU is SQL 2000 and what SKU is 2005? Are they both ENT? And how are you connecting to the 2005 named instance? I was able to install SP1 using Windows Authentication. Can you submit your install logs so I can try to help debug?

Here's what I did:
1) Install SQL 2000 ENT SKU as local system, setting SA password - default instance
2) Apply SQL 2000 SP4
3) Install SQL 2005 ENT SKU setting SQL to run under domain account - named instance
4) Install SQL 2005 SP1

Does that look similar to your repro steps?

Thanks,
Samuel Lester (MSFT)

get an error on a sample code

This is a sample code from an MSDN help site. I copied it and pasted into an open new query. I tried to execute it and got two errors:

USE AdventureWorks;
GO
DECLARE @.tablename sysname
SET @.tablename = N'Person.AddressType'
table_loop:
IF (@.@.FETCH_STATUS <> -2)
BEGIN
SELECT @.tablename = RTRIM(UPPER(@.tablename))
EXEC ('SELECT ''' + @.tablename + ''' = COUNT(*) FROM '
+ @.tablename )
PRINT ' '
END
FETCH NEXT FROM tnames_cursor INTO @.tablename
IF (@.@.FETCH_STATUS <> -1) GOTO table_loop
GO

The errors are:

Msg 208, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Invalid object name 'PERSON.ADDRESSTYPE'.

Msg 16916, Level 16, State 1, Line 9
A cursor with the name 'tnames_cursor' does not exist

The database is connected. Table Person.AddressType is a part of it.

What is wrong?

Thanks.

Did you get this from the GOTO help topic? This note is in the topic right above the example:

Note:

The tnames_cursor cursor is not defined. This example is for illustration only.

so effectively this example is expected not to work. If you need some specific help on using the GOTO syntax, I would suggest asking in the T-SQL forum, that's where the syntax gurus hang out.

Get a timeout error when trying to export to excel

Hi I generate a report successfully in SQL reporting services . Once
the report is generated I then select the export option to export it
to excel
I then get this error message( see below) after waiting about 20 mins
for the excel file to be generated.
There is a lot of data in this report . There is 1240 pages and there
is about 50 rows for each page. That makes it 62000 rows in the
report.
I'm using excel 2007 on my pc. I've updated sql server 2005 to sp2.
Is there some limitation to the amount of data you can export to
excel.'
thanks in advance

I'm not sure about a limitation in MS Excel 2007; but, in MS Excel
2003, the limit was somewhere around 65000 rows. In my opinion, it
sounds like it might be too much data to stream into Excel. Sorry I
could not be of greater assistance.

Get "Invalid cursor state" when modifying a table in SQL 2000

When I try to modify a table that I just created I get the following error message: - Unable to modify table ODBC error:[Mircrosoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver] Invalid cursor state.

SP3 has been applied to SQL Server 2000.

Can anyone help explain what is causing this error? There is sufficient space for the database and transaction log.

If you reuse an hstmt after doing a query that opens a cursor, you need to call SQLCloseCursor(hstmt) before you make your next call.

Hope that helps,

John

Get 'DB Error 10083' with SQL Server 2000

Setup: SQL Server 2000 sp3 on a Windows 2000 machine, transactions running through an ODBC connection running SQLSRV32.dll version 2000.86.1830.00

Transactions: Being generated via a Citrix server (MetaFrame Presentation Server, Enterprise Edition 4.0(Build 2198), Service Pack 2005.04.... This sits on top of an install of Windows 2003 terminal server installaion.

Error: Appears to only be happening on a ADD(Insert) ....

Any thoughts on this would be a big help.

Dave

Is there any more to the error message? I can't find reference to error 10083|||

Here is the exact message I received...

Db Error: 10083

"Cursor statement generated no results.

No changes made to database.

Insert Into Test (testid, testdesc,sequence,createdt,creatorid,lastmodifieddt,modifierid,testinstances,allowinstances,activityid,worklisttable,qutoqc) Values ('999','Test Test',0,'10-31-2006 9:22:30.253','SysAdmin','10-31-2006 9:22:30.253','SysAdmin',1,'N',0,'N','N')

The above highlighted text was the exact message...

Thanks-David

This is not a SQL Server error message. You need to check your data access layer. Here are few guesses on what the problem is:

1. You are issueing insert statement but expecting a result set to be returned. SQL Server will return some result if SET NOCOUNT OFF (in which it will be number of rows affected) or if the insert trigger returns results. In other cases, if SET NOCOUNT ON is set you will not get any results for the insert statement

2. You are doing the wrong thing from the data access layer and should use some direct execute mechanism that doesn't look for results from the command.

Thanks for giving me some direction on this issue! I will do some testing to how I can resolve this issue in a good way.

Did you ever find a resolution to this? We are getting this error in an application we are upgrading. The upgraded version uses SQL Server 2000 and the old version uses SQL Server 7. We are only seeing the error on some of our machines but not all. On two different machines where we have SQL Server 2000 client utilities installed we do not get the error. On another machine where I have SQL Server 7 client utilities or no client utilities exist we do get the error. I think there is a driver found in the 2000 client utilities that resolves the issue, but can't quite put my finger on which one it is. The application vendor seems to think it is our machine configuration.

Thanks,

I found a solution: Check your version of the ntwdblib.dll driver. Version 2000.80.194.0 fixed the issue.

Hello,
There were a couple of posts about this but no answers. I wanted to see if

generating user instances in sql server is disabled. use sp_configure user instances enabl

When I am in Visual Studio 2005, and I try to add an SQL database, I get the following error "generating user instances in sql server is disabled. use sp_configure user instances enabled to generate user instances."

I am currently using SQL server 2005 Express.

What do I need to do, to create an SQL database? Thanks in advance.

Execute this statement:

sp_configure'user instances enabled', 1;RECONFIGURE

You can execute it either from Management Studio for SQL Express (http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/) or from Visual Stuido (create new connection to SQL Express instance then New Query, then execute it!).

Good luck.

|||

Thanks for the advice. Being so new to this, a lot of that went over my head. So I have two questions...

1. How do I create a new connection the SQL Express instance?

2. How do I execute a query after creating it? (With F5?)

Thanks for your help CS4Ever

Select theData | Add New Data Source menu command. This launches theData Source Configuration Wizard.

In theData Source Configuration Wizard, in theChoose a Data Source type step, selectDatabase and then clickNext, then complete the wizard.

Checkout this link:http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/tour/vs2005_guided_tour/VS2005pro/Smart_Client/DataBinder.htm

Good luck.

|||Ok I got it to work. Thanks!

Generating scripts, tables, views, procedures, roles...

Hi...

I'm trying to generate scripts in SQL Server Management Studio 2005.

When I choose 'Script all objects' I get an error when I try to execute it. When I generate the scripts in single files, only tables in one file, only views in one file etc. etc., the execution is succeded.

1) Why do I get an error when I try to execute the script containing tables, views, procedures in one file....?

2) I get an error in the view-file where one column is 'invalid' but I can see it in the view. A generated script should execute succesfully when it is generated one second ago on the same database and so on... Right?

Thanks....

Which exact error do you get ?

Jens K. Suessmeyer

http://www.sqlserver2005.de

|||

sorry, I cant reproduce the errors because my workbuddy has the day off...

But I remember it was one of the views with 2 columns in it, which caused the error: 'Invalid item on view...'

And the sequense in the script is wrong. For example I can see that the script are trying to create a view before the table is created?

You may find that the Database Publishing Wizard offers you more functionality.

|||Thomas, did you find a solution to your problem?

I have the same problem and Database Publishing Wizard does not work any better.

The CREATE VIEW is placed before the dependant tables in the script.

This ONLY happens when I'm trying to script a SQL Server 2005 Express db.

I run the script wizard in SQL Server Management Studio 2005.

SQL Server 2005 Express: 9.0.3042
SQL Server 2005: 9.0.1399

Did you use the switch "create dependent objects" ?

Jens K. Suessmeyer

http://www.sqlserver2005.de

|||

Yes I did.

I've now updated to sp2 (9.0.3042) on the SQL Server 2005 too - no difference. Except that the default value of "create dependant objects" in the script wizard is now false.

I can not include any image of the properties selected, but all are default exept the dependant switch which is true.

The final report start with:

Generate Script Progress

- Determining objects in database '....MDF' that will be scripted. (Success)

- dbo.AllDataView (Success)

- dbo.FindNewRawData (Success)

Which also shows that a View is created first of all objects.

Thanks

Generating Reports Error, dependent on local groups?

Hi,
I finished creating my reports and have had an issue with generating the
reports on http://localhost/reports. When I login to
http://localhost/reports with a user that is part of the Local Administrators
Group the reports run perfectly correct. But when I login with a user that
is not part of the Local Administrators Group I get the Reporting Services
Error:
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) Get
Online Help
Cannot create a connection to data source 'OVSDPROD'.
(rsErrorOpeningConnection) Get Online Help
ERROR [08004] [Oracle][ODBC][Ora]Error while trying to retrieve text for
error ORA-12154 ERROR [IM006] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's
SQLSetConnectAttr failed
The user that I am logged in with has the same exact item-level and
system-level roles as the BUILTIN\Administrators and can navigate throughout
the site to get to the reports but when its time to actually generate the
reports I get the error above.
MikeThis is a problem of the user connecting to Oracle, not to Report Server. The
error is coming form ODBC.
Test this by reconfiguring the data source and storing credentials on the
report server so that the credentials you use are the same as those being
used by the other person.

Even though the error states that this is an ODBC issue, it confuses me
since I am able to generate reports with users that are part of the Local
Administrator Group, but anyone outside of that group can not Generate
Reports. If everyone was having problems generating reports then I would
definitely see how it is an ODBC issue.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks,

Generate SQL Script Error

Hi,
I'm getting an error when I attempt to generate a SQL script from Enterprise
Manager:
[SQL-DMO]CreateFile error on 'servername.dbname.DP1'.
I googled it and found one receommendation to uninstall McAfee. I did so
and it made no difference.
I found another suggestion to save it to a fully-qualified UNC path (not
just clicking on "My Docments"), but that made no difference.
Does anyone know what could be causing this error?
It doesn't matter if I script all objects or just one type of object. It
doesn't matter if I save it to a file or just try to "Preview" it -- either
way I get the same error message.
Thanks for any help that can be provided.
ChuckForgot to include the essentials:
SQL Server 2000 sp3a running on Windows 2000 Advanced Server (fully
patched).

Generate Script - Specified cast is not valid

When trying to generate a script, from SQL Server Management Studio, for the
following Store Procedure ( SP ) I receive the following error. I have
dropped and recreated the Store Procedure but I continue to get the error.
CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.usp_CreditCardSaveTargetQueue_S_Count
@.RecordCount INT OUTPUT
AS
SET NOCOUNT ON
SELECT @.RecordCount = COUNT(*)
FROM CreditCardSaveTargetQueue
WITH(NOLOCK) WHERE validation = 'X'
GO
-- **************************************************************
Error:
TITLE: Microsoft.SqlServer.SqlEnum
--
Failed to retrieve dependency information (object_id(System.Int32)
1952726009.object_type(System.Int16) 4.relative_id(System.Int32)
731149650.relative_type(System.DBNull) .object_name(System.String)
usp_CreditCardSaveTargetQueue_S_Count.object_schema(System.String)
dbo.relative_name(System.DBNull) .relative_schema(System.DBNull) .).
--
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Specified cast is not valid. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SqlEnum)I'm having the same problem and have tried the same resolution
(dropping/recreating stored procedure). If I try to script the database and
include this stored procedure, it fails. If I try to view dependencies to
this stored procedure it fails. Specified cast is not valid.
